How Gaurav R. Cracked His CISSP Exam

Dear Friends,

Here is my detailed study plan and important factors that contributed to success in my first attempt.

Having around 12 years of IT experience mostly in Development and Security.

I would like to thank God, my spiritual teachers, my wife and all my friends who helped me to achieve this goal.

It is said that if you want to become a drunkard than you should often visit a bar ! Similarly those who want to become CISSP should be active members of this Facebook group and read the success stories !

The key to crack this examination is to understand the concepts and relate with what you are doing at work (if its not a part of your work watch video's or talk to experts and make notes for motor and understanding).

If you are starting to take this exam write down your thoughts why you want to take it, the benefits and worthiness of the time you spend here.Try to tailor the studies according to your nature. Everyone has unique propensities, you may find tips here and there though which are useful.

I prepared in a span of 8 months with some gaps due to work and family tasks.I would try to get up early in the morning around 5 am to meditate and do exercise to stay fresh and focus on my work and studies the entire day with some exercise in the evening too. Went to sleep early to give the mind rest (9:30 - 1 for mind and then body from 1 -5) as per research by American Medical Association.

Planning studies is also an integral part of cracking this exam. Revised the concepts by spending around 10 hours everyday in the last few days along with my daily exercise.

–Resources– Sybex CISSP Official Study Guide - 2 times Sybex CISSP Practice Tests Shon Harris - Referred for few topics CISSP CBK - Referred for few topics Skillset videos on youtube. Other videos' based on complex topics from Youtube.

I utilized all 6 hours and in the end could not review 10 - 15 questions that were marked for review due to shortage of time.

Please do not mug up or memorize anything, it's only going to give you "FALSE" sense of preparation.Obviously you should remember some sequence of events in a analytical manner co-related to a real life scenario so you may recollect at the test.

Reading without understanding is not what this exam is about. It's purely experience and concept based exam.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
